Story
The first gift I have received for my 70th birthday is registration to run the Melbourne Marathon......plus a $1000 donation if I can do it................. I am inspired by the people who have somehow made it to Australia through horrors I don't want to think about. The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, where I have been volunteering for 7 years, supports them in their appeal for sanctuary. Presently about 200 people a day come for meals, about 600 a week collect groceries, and the cost of this financial year's emergency accommodation is estimated at about $700,000. Sponsor me and support people in desperate need of asylum.
ASRC Footscray (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre)
The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is both a place and a movement.
As an independent not for profit organisation, we are owned and run by our community. Our programs empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well-being. As a movement, we mobilise and unite communities to create lasting social and policy change for people seeking asylum in Australia.
We assist over 7,000 people seeking asylum each year from our centres in Footscray and Dandenong, Victoria.
